Producers of The Bachelor did things a little bit differently Monday night for the season premiere with virgin new bachelor Colton Underwood!
The whole thing had a more festive, laid-back, party-type atmosphere with a few different live watch parties set up around the country, and plenty of personalities from #BachelorNation — like Chris “The Goose”, and Jared & Ashley — serving as correspondents reporting live back to Chris Harrison.
There were even TWO on-air engagements by two #BachelorNation couples at different points during the three-hour extravaganza! And an already-hitched fan asked Ben Higgins to marry her, too. Ooooookay then!!

But when it came down to it, all the best stuff was there just like it always is with this reality TV mainstay… so here’s what you need to know to get caught up in case you missed last night’s premiere!

The Sloth & The Accent
After the live first-hour showing cut-arounds all over the country (and those two fan engagements, among other things), we got down to the nitty-gritty. In other words, girls started popping out of limos. Here we go, Colton!! There’s a Miss North Carolina, and a Miss Alabama. There’s Demi, the Texan who tells Colton she hasn’t dated a virgin since she was 12. Overshare, much?! There’s Heather, who is not only a virgin herself, she’s never even been kissed. No shame, no judgment, just… how is that possible?!
Then there’s Alex D., who pops out of her limo in a sloth costume — all because Colton likes to “take things sloooooooowly.” (Her words, not ours.) Colton laughs it off — approximately the 186th virgin joke of the night, which is actually getting old now — but you can tell he’s a little overwhelmed. Speaking of Heather, it’s a good thing she got to Colton first, because Laura steps out of a limo near the end of intros wearing the exact same dress as the never-been-kissed virgin. Oops!
To top it all off, Bri — who is not Australian — shows up with a fake Australian accent for Colton. “I’m not really Australian,” she tells the camera later in her normal American accent, “but you have to do what you can to stand out.” Surprisingly… Colton is kind of digging it?!
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
Here’s the thing about virgins apparently (well, besides never-been-kissed girl, at least) — they LOVE kissing. It’s like, their thing, right, possibly because that’s pretty much all they’ve been able to do. As a result, Colton is a very good kisser. Caelynn (Miss North Carolina) found that out first, and later, Katie locked lips with the former NFL football player. To top it all off, Hannah G. gets her own private smooch, too — as Onyeka said at one point in the night, Colton truly was “drowning in bitches!”
First Impressions…
It’s not the sloth, unfortunately — though after she took her ridiculous costume off, Alex D. actually did make a very good impression on Colton — but Hannah G. wins the coveted first-night first impression rose. As has been the case with several recent past seasons, this feels like the real deal, too; the chemistry is evident, the connection was instantaneous, and in all likelihood, Hannah G. may be a frontrunner all the way through if things keep up like this.
Chris Harrison Tribute
Chris has hosted 930 consecutive seasons of the show (that number is right, don’t look it up), so it’s only fitting that producers put together a surprise little tribute to the man near the end of Colton’s big first night. It included a montage of Chris’ best (and worst — with a shout out to Bad Chad‘s infamous ‘f**k you, Chris Harrison!’) moments, and more memorable times in #BachelorNation. How sweet! BTW — Chris’ real-life mom made an appearance on the show earlier in the evening, too. Isn’t that just so sweet? Having a virgin Bachelor must bring out the wholesome family side of everybody! Ha!!!
Rose Ceremony Time
Alas, the good times couldn’t last all night. At the rose ceremony, Colton said goodbye to six women, virtually all of whom we will all forget immediately, though we’ll write their names here on the official record because… why the hell not?! Notably, he cut sloth girl, Alex D., which was a surprise because the pair did kinda hit it off earlier in the night after the costume came off. Sad!
Colton also said goodbye to Revian, Laura, Jane T., Erin, and Devin. Thanks for playing, ladies!
…And there you have it, Perezcious readers!!
