The Bravery Of One Teacher Goes Viral

Well, the video of the bravery goes viral, but we’re sure after watching it that the bravery itself will start to too!

Watch the video above and see how a teacher in Monterrey, Mexico, is able to keep her 15 young students calm and safe during a violent and deadly drug shootout happening about a block away. She used singing and a soothing voice to keep them unharmed on the ground, while the incident left 5 people dead outside.

For those of you thinking, “Why did she film this?” her answer has been that she wants to show the world what they have to deal with there. And we’re definitely inclined to believe that more than we would that she’s trying to earn anything from the fear of those kids:

The incident has highlighted the effect of Mexico’s bloody drug war on children, whom experts say are likely to experience trauma from the constant fear of violence. More than 35,000 people have died since Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared war on the cartels in 2006. In Monterrey, the Gulf and Zeta cartels fight over turf and their drug smuggling routes into the United States, as the Los Angeles Times reports. Though one of the country’s richest cities and once thought to be among its safest, Monterrey has been caught in a “spiral of violence” spurred by the drug wars, the BBC reported.

What this teacher has done for her kids is nothing short of inspirational, and heroic. Her quick thinking, and calm demeanor definitely helped those kids remain safe!

Those kids and their parents are no doubt so thankful, Martha Rivera Alanis! Amazing job!
