Surprising, given the amount of shenanigans he’s gotten himself into while promoting this flick!
While Sacha Baron Cohen‘s latest, The Dictator, has had a pretty impressive overseas debut, even opening in Australia at #1 on Wednesday and beating out The Avengers, the film hasn’t fared nearly as well stateside, premiering yesterday to just $4.5 million in 3,003 US theaters!
And it was projected to make somewhere in between $5 and $6.5 million!
Yeesh! Probably doesn’t help that reviews haven’t been too favorable either!
An exec from Paramount reveals:
”It’s an uphill battle here. But internatonally it’s ahead of the U.S. tracking, especially in Australia and the UK. The publicity does feel like it’s paying off overseas, especially that Oscar stunt which got huge pickup.”
Ha!
We guess the foreign market appreciates Ryan Seacrest being covered in ash on the red carpet more than folks do here!
Too bad!
But hey! The weekend hasn’t arrived yet, so maybe it just needs a little time and word of mouth to get the moviegoers coming!
Or not, and it will just flop hard! LOLz!
