Prepare yourself North Carolina: Clay Aiken is back!
The former closeted American Idol contestant is heading back to his hometown of Raleigh to speak at the Human Right Campaign Carolinas gala this weekend.
Gayken will deliver a speech concerning gay rights alongside Meredith Baxter, who just recently revealed she was a lesbian. Clay explained that he wrote his own speech for the event after the remarks given to him for the gala proved to be too “political” for him. He explained:
“I don’t feel like this is the place to be horribly politically charged and bash people and talk about the wrongs that have been done. My goal is to be hopeful, that it’s time for everyone to have equal rights. It’s more important to me, as a parent, that my son have all the rights — if he’s gay — than it is for me. I don’t want to do anything today that’s going to inhibit, or be a detriment to, his rights”.
Clay thinks this task will take decades, but we’re more optimistic.
The time is now and we can make it so!
