What a truly sweet gesture.
The New York Jets and their coach Rex Ryan dedicated their playoff win over the Cincinnati Bengals to owner Woody Johnson in remembrance of his daughter Casey Johnson.
Rex gave him the game ball in the locker room after the game. Woody did not address the players, but quarterback Mark Sanchez said:
“We knew how much this meant to him. It was a great moment for him under difficult circumstances…This one was for Mr. Johnson and his loss last week.”
Before the game began, there was a moment of silence for Casey and every member of the Jets organization, aside from the players, wore juvenile diabetes awareness bracelets to honor Casey who suffered form the disease.
Although Woody was very pleased with the Jets’ win, when asked if it helped him feel any better he replied, “No, it doesn’t help.”
But at least he knew everyone in the stadium was thinking of him, Casey and his family and we imagine that had to be comforting in some way.
