We were overwhelmed with sadness when, a year and a half ago, Polaroid announced that they were ceasing production of their instant cameras and film. Now, in an exciting turn, it has announced that both the film and cameras should be on sale by mid-2010!
The revived cameras will be produced in China by Summit Global, the company that purchased the license to the Polaroid name after the company collapsed into Chapter 11 last February.
Meanwhile, the revived film will be created by The Impossible Project, which was once a part of the Polaroid manufacturing plant in The Netherlands. Over the past year, the managers of the factory have teamed up to work together to recreate the film on a low budget.
The announcement came from Summit Global in Hong Kong on Tuesday morning.
What’s more, in addition to the instant Polaroid camera, Summit Global will also produce a digital version of the camera.
Music to our ears! We’re so glad the Polaroid is back. Hopefully it’s here to stay!
