Solange Knowles hopped on twitter to show her frustration with the Miami Beach Police department after they allegedly pulled a weapon on her after she allegedly got unruly for not being let into a night club for having a balloon.
That weapon is claimed to be a switchblade, or knife.
Now we’re hearing that the balloon was a five-foot inflatable banana, and once we heard that, we’re kinda expecting that the story is going to fall somewhere in the middle of what we heard. Who brings something like that to a night club?
The buoyant banana was a party stopper – and the younger Knowles was denied entry to the Washington Avenue hotspot.
When Knowles was bounced at the door, she became hostile and started alleging racial discrimination, according to the Miami Beach Police Department.
Authorities said an off-duty police officer working at the Cameo took Knowles across the street to have a little chat on the rejection.
That’s when Knowles said an officer pulled a weapon, believed to be a knife, and threatened to deflate the banana.
Miami Beach police confirmed Monday that the incident occurred, but said race played no factor in defusing a showdown with a hostile singer and a giant banana.
If the officer threatened to pop the banana, ridiculous in size or not, that’s not cool. He had no right to do that unless she was being a menace with it. Honestly, it was her property, and it wasn’t contraband.
If race played an issue, that would equally be as terrible.
But also, on the flip side, if Solange was getting out of hand for no reason, that sucks too. But getting out of hand for no reason DOES NOT excuse pulling a weapon, destroying her property, or racially profiling her.
We’ll just have to see what comes from the complaint and investigation.
