Noooo! Our last refuge, it’s gone!
Stage and film theaters are popular because entering into them for a few hours requires leaving the outside world behind!
No phone calls. No text messages. No distractions.
Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater aims to destroy that sacred arrangement by allowing encouraging users to play on their cell phones during the performance! They’re actually suggesting that fans use Twitter from their seats?!
Why, why, WHY!?
Other audience members don’t want to notice the lights and sounds of the cell phone in front of them!
Stage performers certainly wouldn’t appreciate a distracted audience more invested in a game of Angry Birds than their production!
While we admit we’re morbidly curious to see how Patti LuPone reacts to one of her fans tweeting during her show, this cannot be a good direction for showbiz!
Hopefully this is just a supremely unfunny joke or a passing fad!
