While here in the States we deal with our own economic struggles, the world endures other hardships as well.
In India Lalit Kishore Choudhary, 47 – CEO of the Indian operations of Graziano Transmissioni – was bludgeoned to death by a group of angry workers recently laid off by the company.
That’s hardcore!
On Monday, more than 100 former workers had gathered outside the car parts manufacturing plant while a meeting met within to discuss a possible reinstatement. The workers had been laid off following a prior incident at the factory, the result of underlying tensions regarding disputes over management, pay, and contracts.
The group outside responded to a cry for help within and rushed the building. Vastly outnumbered, company staff and executives scrambled for cover, with one man locking himself in his office.
More than 60 people were arrested with 20 in the hosptial.
A separate incident occurred about a month ago, where thousands of violent protesters brought Tata – the Indian conglomerate that owns Land Rover and Jaguar – to a halt, ceasing construction on a new car manufacturing plant. Other companies have experienced similar protests.
A spokesman for the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry said, “Such a heinous act is bound to sully India’s image among overseas investors.”
With several United States industries outsourcing to India, we wonder how the dominoes will fall.
Choudhary leaves behind a wife and a son.
What a tragedy.
