About a bazillion photos get taken every day but you’re looking at (above) what the World Press Photo Academy is calling the greatest picture taken all YEAR!
Wow! That’s saying something!
The shot was snapped by American photographer John Stanmeyer along the shore of Djibouti. It shows eight Africans holding their phones to the sky while attempting to capture a cell signal from Somalia.
K, that’s pretty friggin’ cool!
The pic originally ran in National Geographic and was chosen by a jury panel, including judge and fellow photo enthusiast Susan Linfield. She explained why Stanmeyer’s shot took top prize, saying:
“What we├óΓé¼Γäóre looking for in the winning image is the same quality you would look for in a great film or in literature├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥the impression that it exists on more than one level, that it makes you think about things you haven├óΓé¼Γäót thought about.├óΓé¼┬¥
While we think Kim Kardashian├óΓé¼Γäós backside selfie should have been considered too, we’re pretty sure the best photo won!
Congratz, John!
