Thomas Markle speaks!
It’s been a week since the royals announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were expecting their first child together. And we’re surprised Meghan’s father Thomas kept quiet about the whole thing for this long! How’d he manage it?

Once he did decide to say something, the 74-year-old thought the best course of action was to give an interview to a British publication, just like his duchess daughter would’ve wished (sarcasm). He spoke to the Daily Mail‘s The Mail on Sunday this weekend, saying he “wasn’t surprised” to hear the pregnancy announcement:
“Meghan loves children and she and Harry have been talking about wanting a family from the start. I’m delighted for them both.”
Aw.
The retired Hollywood lighting director’s first thought upon hearing the news on the radio was to remember the birth of little Meghan:
“The first thing I thought about was holding Meghan in my arms as a newborn 37 years ago. I thought, “My baby is having a baby.” It was a very proud moment.”
He continued:
“I was filled with love, joy and happiness for both my beautiful daughter and my son-in-law. A new baby is a blessing and I look forward to seeing a little Meghan or a little Harry.”
With the way things are going between him and the royal family, however, he’ll probably only see his grandchild through official photos. And we doubt the royals will be happy about this interview.
Anyway, Thomas also made sure to add that “[Meghan] will make a fantastic mother.”
At the conclusion of the interview, it was noted that Mr. Markle did not ask for or receive any compensation for sharing these thoughts.
Hmm, do you believe it?
