Thomas Rhett didn’t look at baby names while naming his newest child.
In February, the country singer and his wife Lauren Akins welcomed their fifth child together, a son they named Brave Elijah! What a unique name! At the time, Lauren took to Instagram to announce the wonderful addition:
“Welcome to the world Brave. Oh. my. goodness. Our hearts are just in a big ole puddle with this precious baby BOY. Brave Elijah Akins was born last week at almost 10 pounds and almost 2 weeks early-thank you Jesus this big boy didn’t wait another 2 weeks to be born. Thomas Rhett was my biggest champion in labor & delivery. He helped deliver him (
), was the first one to see and *tearfully*, mixed with a bit of shock announce to us all in the room ‘It’s a BOY’”

What an amazing experience! She concluded:
“We are so grateful God chose us to have YOU cutie pie. Your four sisters are smitten and we are completely over the moon in love with you big Brave boy”

What a little cutie! But how about that name? What’s the inspo behind it? Well, Thomas is telling all!
During an interview with People published on Wednesday, the 36-year-old revealed:
“I’ve actually seen a lot of articles on the internet that say, ‘Thomas Rhett names his son after a bottle of wine.’ That makes me so mad because I didn’t name him after a wine. It was just like the wine was called Mt. Brave.”
He continued:
“When I saw the name Brave on that bottle, it just hit me, like, ‘Wow, I’ve never thought about the name Brave for a kid.’ Then you start going through all the things that just being brave means.”
Certainly a strong choice! The Die a Happy Man singer went on:
“My wife and I just started throwing that name around, and it really started to stick. Once we started to say, ‘Oh, little Brave, Brave boy, Brave man,’ it just started to feel like such a strong name.”
That’s so sweet! We’re sure the little man will live up to his name in spades.
Together, Thomas and Lauren also share Willa Gray, 10, Ada James, 8, Lennon Love, 6, and Lillie Carolina, 4.
