The rug mystery has been solved!
If you are like us, you have been captivated by Katie Santry’s series on TikTok about a mystery rug she found buried in her yard last month — that eventually led to the police and cadaver dogs getting involved. It is a wild story, and we finally have answers about what is really there! Listen up!
The whole saga started when the Columbus, Ohio, local and her boyfriend, Brandon, started digging up their lawn to build a fence. While shoveling, they discovered a rolled-up rug buried deep in the ground by a tree in the backyard. Why would there be a rug there? Weird. More on that in a second. At first, the couple did not think much of it. However, that changed when she woke up one morning a few days later to find her desk in disarray and her laptop screen shattered in the sunroom! Whoa!

Katie told People she questioned everyone in her house – her boyfriend, his two kids, and her own son – about messing with her stuff, but they all swore they were nowhere near the room the night before. In the comments section of the first TikTok video about the situation on October 1, she insisted it was not a burglar because they set the alarms for the house. So the only thing it could have been in her mind? A ghost! And Katie began to speculate if there was a paranormal connection between the sunroom incident and the rug she found! Like, she theorized that there was a dead body in it! OMG!

From there, Katie and her family began trying to remove the rug from the ground. However, they soon realized it was too hard. She later explained they were unable to get the rug out themselves since it was “too long” and “too big.” However, fans who were now invested in this story did not want her to give up! In fact, they pushed Katie to call the police to investigate! And she finally did earlier this week. Two police officers arrived at the house within 15 minutes, but they could not do much. They informed her it would take too long to dig it up. Seriously? She thinks there could be a potential dead body, and you do nothing?!

However, Katie was not stopping! She was determined to solve the mystery. She went on to call the listing agent for her home, which was built in 1967, who contacted the daughter of the original homeowners. From the conversation, the family had no clue why a rug was buried there. While they had dogs, none were ever buried in that spot since they were cremated after passing away – which ruled out a theory that a pet was there. Hmm. Katie then decided to host her own digging party with friends to see what they could find. However, they were unsuccessful.

Here is where things ramped up! By Thursday, the homicide department decided to send detectives and cadaver dogs, who are trained to locate human bodies, to her home! And guess what? In shocking footage from a TikTok Live of the investigation, both dogs are seen sitting on the spot where she found the rug! Take a look (below):

Was Katie right all along? Was there a body in the rug? On Friday, police officers and investigators showed up to her house again to finally dig out the rug from the ground. After keeping all of us on the edge of our seats, Katie finally revealed what was found. And spoiler alert: it was… NOT A BODY! Phew! She explained in a TikTok video:
“They have recovered the hole and this has been the most absurd, insane experience of my life. What did they find? No, they didn’t find a body, they found a mother effing rug with some rubber. The question remains of why the dogs sat. I don’t know. Both dogs, not just one two. I don’t know. The other question remains is who broke my laptop.”
Now, Katie is “so confused” about what happened to her belongings before:
“There’s no body, there’s no body. Honestly, let’s praise the Lord there’s no body. I can stay in my house … everyone knows where I live but at least it’s not haunted. But the mystery of the effing rug has been solved, and there is no body. And they are doing a fine job of putting my stuff back up.”
