Tony Scott elevated Tom Cruise’s career to the next level in 1986 by directing him straight to the top of the box office in Top Gun.
Sadly, the director is no longer with us after taking his own life on Sunday, but his Maverick has said he’ll “really miss him.”
The actor, who also starred in Scott’s 1990 racing drama Days of Thunder, released a statement saying:
“Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him. He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Tom’s ex-wife and Days of Thunder co-star, Nicole Kidman, also was close to the Hollywood heavyweight and has said:
“I’m so so sad. I loved Tony and he was always so good to me. He will be deeply missed by so many of us that knew him.”

It sounds like this guy was as beloved by the people he worked with as much as he was by the people who loved his movies.
