Ever since audio recordings of Donald Sterling going on a racist rant were leaked this weekend, plenty of companies have been distancing themselves from the Los Angeles Clippers owner!
But what about the organization that have been receiving HUGE donations from the billionaire and putting the money to good use?
Well UCLA found themselves in this moral dilemma after Donald pledged to donate $3 million for kidney research! Although the money was for a good cause, the University has decided to return the initial check they received for $425,000 and says they wont be accepting any more of his cash!
The move comes after an ad was placed in Sunday’s edition of the LA Times in which the University thanks Donald and his wife Shelly Sterling and says they would name a research lab in their honor! UCLA claims they had NOTHING to do with the ad and that it was actually placed by Donald himself!
Tons of other organizations have found themselves in similar situations, such as Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Museum of Tolerance which has received $30,000 from Donald over the last three years! The museum says they will keep the money since it’s already been spent, however, they will NOT be accepting any more donations on his behalf!
A Place Called Home, which is a shelter for at-risk teens, has received a $100,000 pledge which has been paid in yearly installments. The organization says they will keep the $30,000 they have already received but they will be rejecting the rest of the money.
Meanwhile, Temple of the Arts, L.A. Union Rescue Mission, and American Diabetes Association are ALL keeping the donations they’ve received from Donald, and they shared similar sentiments saying the money is going towards a good cause, regardless of where it came from.
Goodwill of Southern California also received a $100,000 donation from Donald, and they say they will be returning ALL of the money they’ve received thus far and wont take ANY donations from him in the future!
It’s definitely a tough call to make considering some of these organizations rely on donations such as his just to function, and in the end it DOES go towards a great cause. However, it’s great to see some of them taking a stand and showing his dirty money is NOT wanted!
