Universal is responding to the backlash that they’ve received for its inclusion of a scene, which insensitively uses the word “gay,” in the trailer for the Vince Vaughn comedy The Dilemma, and has released the following statement:
“The teaser trailer for The Dilemma was not intended to cause anyone discomfort. In light of growing claims that the introduction to the trailer is insensitive, it is being replaced. A full trailer, which has been in the works for some time, will post online later today.”
We commend them for accepting responsibility and taking the appropriate measures to rectify the situation!
It doesn’t seem on the surface like a big deal, but it’s time we pay attention to the phrases we use and the connotations that come with them!
