It’s about time!
Urban Outfitters is apparently taking a long look at their merchandise after their recent scandal, and have pulled all products, such as the poster (above), pertaining to guerrilla leader Ernesto “Che” Guevara.
Activists have pointed out to the company that Che was actually a violent tyrant and Thor Halvorssen, the founder of the Human Rights Foundation, even wrote an open letter to Urban’s CEO, stating:
“As a nonprofit organization dedicated to the defense of human rights, we would like to bring your attention to Guevara├óΓé¼Γäós bloody and anti-democratic legacy. Although Guevara├óΓé¼Γäós image has appeared on countless items for consumption over the last few decades as a symbol of change for the better, Guevara├óΓé¼Γäós actual record is that of a brutal tyrant who suppressed individual freedom in Cuba and murdered those who challenged his worldview.”
Well said, Mr. Halvorssen!
It was odd that Urban wasn’t aware of Che’s ideals and history.
Then again, this is the same company that previously offended the ADL, the LGBT community, Irish Americans and the Navajo Nation, so…
The important thing is that they’re obviously an effort to sell products that don’t offend people.
