Suzanne Nicholson traveled to New York City to celebrate her grandson Gabe Larsen ‘s 11th birthday (both pictured above on the left), and hoped to take the little boy sightseeing and catch a Yankees game.
Instead, the heroic grandma gave up her own life by literally shielding his body from an incoming garbage truck while sitting in a taxi on the way to their hotel from the airport.
The cab driver Mohamed Hussain (pictured above with his family) lost control of his vehicle during the rainy night, and was also instantly killed.
Gabe’s dad Dean says:
“It was such a horrific crash, I don’t understand how he survived it. It was pretty amazing what his grandmother did for him. It was his birthday, and she was bringing him over here to celebrate.”
Horrific indeed! The 11 year-old is being treated for a concussion, punctured lung and rib, broken collarbone and pelvis, but is expected to recover.
Little Gabe hasn’t been informed of his grandma’s passing.
