As often the case with Hollywood stars, Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler‘s orbits just pulled them too far apart — but those close to the pair wouldn’t be surprised if they collided again in the future!
Earlier this week, we reported the High School Musical alum and Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood actor ended their relationship of almost nine years. Fans were immediately crushed, as the twosome, who first started dating in 2011, seemed to be as close as ever over the summer.
But recent months have seen them oceans apart (literally), which is a big reason why they apparently decided to break free from their romance, according to E! News.

An insider told the outlet:
“They’re just shooting on two different continents and it’s a matter of distance. There is no bad blood at all, and they have a lot of respect for each other.”
Always good to hear!
Hudgens has been overseas filming her new movie, The Princess Switch 2, as of late, while Butler appears to be gearing up for his starring role in Baz Luhrmann‘s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.
When Austin’s Elvis leaves the set, however, anything’s possible: a second source told the outlet the former couple “are split for now” but are “going to see what happens,” sharing:
“They have such a history and deep connection they could find their way back to one another. Right now she felt like he needed to go and be single and see if that’s what he really wants.”
Wow. How mature of her!
Hudgens definitely knows what she’s doing here, letting her man method act as The King without having to worry about two-timing his Priscilla, if you know what we mean.
It was announced that Austin had been cast as the music icon over the summer. At the time, Vanessa took to social media to congratulate her “honey,” writing on Instagram:
“I AMMMM OVERRRR THE F**KING MOOOOOOOOONNNNN. I CANT WAIT SO PROUD OF MY HONEYYYYY!!!”
Butler returned the praises days later at the premiere of Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood, saying of his then-girlfriend:
“It’s hard for me to even put into words what that girl means to me. I am so inspired by her every day and I just love her to my core.”
Just a few weeks ago, Hudgens opened up to Cosmopolitan UK about how she makes her relationship with Butler work. She told the mag:
“It’s eight years this year – FaceTime, good communication, respect and trust [are what keep us going]. The longest we’ve been apart was four months. It sucks! You start hating hearing yourself say ‘I miss you.’ But if it’s your person, you make it work.”
