We posted about it briefly before, but October is Adopt A Shelter Dog month!
It’s important that you do your research before you find a shelter and decide to adopt from it. In the video (above) Veterinarian Dr. Debbye Turner Bell about how to choose the right shelter dog for you.
There are a few key points everyone should be aware of! The shelter should ask you as many questions as you ask them (to make sure you will be a good owner), have a staff veterinarian, and behaviorist.
Do your homework before you pick your dog too! Where did it come from, how long have they been at the shelter? Does the dog have any medical conditions? Does the shelter have a return policy?
It’s a lot to soak in and research, but it’s worth it! You’re saving a life and providing a better environment for the dog!
Go out and adopt this month! Bring a new family member home!
