Yes, we know you’re out there. You have no job, no money, basically no life, and you are sitting in your parent’s basement right now playing Halo.

Well, congratulations, because of gamers like you, the video game industry has never looked better!

Reports are coming in that video games sales for the next five years are set to grow at 5.8% annually. In just in North America alone, video games sales are looking to reach $17.2 billion this year and growing to $21.6 billion in 2013.

Stefanie Kane, a partner at Pricewaterhouse Coopers’ entertainment and media practice says “unlimited hours of fun” after a game is bought is one of the reasons that “cost-conscious consumers” will keep buying games even when the economy is bad.

Translation: You need something to do to fill the time between receiving the unemployment checks.

FYI: Success should also be attributed to teenage boys, nerds, and pot-heads.
