We thought this might’ve been a trick just in time for Halloween treats…
But Walmart TOTALLY labeled adult plus-size ensems as ‘Fat Girl Costumes’ on their website Monday — causing an uproar on Twitter and beyond.
The awful web marking was even a top trending topic on the social media site, prompting the retailer to take action and attempt to remove immediately.
Well today, a spokesperson for Walmart is coming out with an official “I’m sorry” for the online wording, confirming its existence and explaining:
“This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologize. We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again.”
We surveyed readers yesterday, and rather than place blame on a hacker or Walmart, they believe it was a mean joke from a web developer!
No word on who actually made the switch in text, but the section has since been updated to read ‘Women’s Plus-Size Halloween Costumes’.
Hopefully the mega-retailer will have this mystery solved well before All Hallows Eve, because people are demanding to know who’s responsible!
