Well, it looks like it’s the end of the road for The Weeknd and Bella Hadid!
The 29-year-old rapper, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, and the 22-year-old supermodel have been kind of off-and-on since April 2015, when they were spotted spending quality time together at Coachella.

But according to a source spilling exclusively to E! News (perhaps the same one who first revealed the couple’s 2018 reconciliation):
“Bella and Abel have split.”
The timing was not made clear, but the impetus behind the separation was.
The insider says it was all about too much “distance” between the lovers. And that isn’t just literal. The source says:
“They are in different places right now, physically and mentally. Bella is prepping for her fashion week commitments and Abel is working on his music and his upcoming acting debut.”
While the couple frequently jet back and forth across the country for work, the source says this time their schedules just didn’t work out (they’d be in New York and El Lay at “opposite times”), and they had to be apart for an extended period.
New York fashion week begins in almost exactly one month, on September 5, so that’s where the younger Hadid (and big sis Gigi also, come to think of it) will be for a bit.

As far as The Weeknd’s acting career? Well, he’s playing himself, as is NBA star Kevin Garnett, in Uncut Gems, the next film from indie darlings The Safdie Brothers (Good Time). However, the Adam Sandler film is already in post-production so we’re not sure he’ll be needed again on that until it comes time to promote it in December.
However, he did confirm on Twitter — on the same day as the breakup news came out — that he was in total work mode, writing:
“album mode full effect”

The Weeknd’s highly anticipated next album, teased already with the enigmatic title Chapter 6, will be his first full length project since 2016’s triple platinum Starboy.
We can’t help but wonder if he’s implying he needs solitude to complete the record. He’d hardly be the first to take more inspiration from a breakup than a healthy relationship.

E!‘s source hints at other issues, saying:
“They have been arguing a lot recently.”
The insider even says the couple “haven’t spent quality time together in months.”
That sounds a bit more like figurative distance. Maybe the scheduling issue is just a good excuse to break it off now?

Notably, Abel and Bella broke up once before, in November 2017 and got back together a few months later.
If you’re thinking, “Eh, they’ll just get back together in a few months” you may be right. The source says even the breaker uppers are putting their money on another reconciliation:
“They hope to get back together at one point but for now are focusing on themselves and their projects.”
