This is a tough call.
Rep. Anthony Weiner is insisting that he will not be stepping down from his post, and that he’s eager about getting back to work. We understand that he wants to keep his job, of course, and move on. But the people don’t seem to be ready to just forget.
Here’s what he said:
“I betrayed a lot of people and I know it and I’m trying to get back to work now and try to make amends to my constituents, and of course to my family of course,” he added. “I’m going to go back to my community office and try to get some work done.
“As I said when I spoke at the press conference on Monday that I exchanged inappropriate things with people and, I think that I’ve now got to deal with those consequences. I was completely honest on Monday after I hadn’t been for a while.”
We agree that it’s the right thing that he should continue working during this — this country is in a state where nobody should be slouching on their job in the government.
It’s hard for us to give a definitive call on this, though, because Weiner DOES have some great ideas when it comes to policy and politics. What we can’t get passed is that he lied to everyone from the get-go, and lying is something we DON’T want in a politician, despite people claiming all of them do.
Morally, we totally object to what he’s put his wife through, 100%. But the question is that should there be a separation between his private life and what he gets done for the people? Do we ignore his ideas because he’s a trolling the internet for sexytime when he’s married?
Should we forgive and forget, or should he step down, readers?
