The Weinstein Company feels like they’ve been bullied by MPAA long enough.
The production company lost its appeal to change its documentary on bullying from “R” to “PG-13.”
Harvey Weinstein and Alex Libby, a child who was bullied in the film, gave impassioned speech but the MPAA said no dice.
Now, TWC thinks its about time for a change.
Harvey said the following about the upsetting ruling:
We respect the MPAA and their process but feel this time it has just been a bridge too far,
have been through many of these appeals, but this one vote loss is a huge blow to me personally. Alex Libby gave an impassioned plea and eloquently defended the need for kids to be able to see this movie on their own, not with their parents, because that is the only way to truly make a change.
Bully was rated “R” due to strong language. But a bullying movie teens can’t see…how does that make sense?!
If TWC leaves the MPAA, they can release the film as is but it could limit its reach in theaters. If the company stays, then they’ll have to reedit.
Sad. It’s a lose-lose situation. Teens need to see this flick!
