Amie Harwick's Family Demands An Apology From Wendy Williams Over 'Distasteful' Murder Joke

Amie Harwick's family demands apology from Wendy Williams

Wendy Williams can’t just say whatever she wants without paying the price.

As we reported, the talk show host came under fire this week for her absurdly inappropriate joke about the violent murder of Drew Carey’s ex-fiancée, Dr. Amie Harwick. Now, the slain sex therapist’s brother has come out to demand the talk show host issue a public apology to their family for her remark.

Speaking to FOX News, Amie’s brother, Chris Harwick, said the daytime diva’s jokes and gestures about the death were infuriating, telling the outlet:

“Domestic violence is something no one should be joking about…This is a difficult time for my family and for Wendy Williams to make light of this tragedy is very upsetting to us and extremely distasteful.”

He went on to explain that Wendy should say she’s sorry for making the bad joke, continuing:

“My sister worked tirelessly for domestic violence victims and women’s rights. Wendy Williams should apologize publicly to my family for her comment.”

We’d say that’s a fair thing to ask, seeing as we’ve never heard something this insensitive come out of a tv personality’s mouth before — Wendy herself included.

Just two days after Amie was allegedly murdered by an ex-boyfriend, Wendy made a horrifying joke while addressing the sex therapist’s fatal fall over a third story balcony using the famous catchphrase from the Price is Right — the game show Carey’s hosted since 2007.

After explaining that Amie was “killed, not by Drew, but by the ex,” Wendy said, “Come on down” and looked down as if someone was falling from a balcony. The comment was met with an awkward silence from the audience before Wendy moved on to a different hot topic.

Viewers took to Twitter immediately after the segment aired to express their disgust, writing:

“I KNOW Wendy Williams did NOT just make a ‘come on down’ joke about Drew Carey’s ex-fiancée getting killed by being thrown off of a third floor balcony!!! Somebody tell me I heard that wrong, please… but the audience is stone-cold quiet.”

“@WendyWilliams come on down? Real classy. Someone’s daughter was killed. Not funny. Owe family an apology #DrewCarey.”

While Carey has yet to address Wendy’s comments, he previously broke his silence on Amie’s death, saying in a statement:

“Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime. She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief. I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation.”

According to reports, Amie was murdered over the weekend after an alleged argument with her ex-boyfriend turned physical, leading to her being pushed off of a three-story balcony and falling to her death. Her ex, Gareth Pursehouse, was arrested on murder charges. He was later released from Los Angeles County Jail on $2 million dollar bail.

Do YOU think Wendy will admit her comment was repugnant?
