11-year-old Pruthviraj Patil suffers from hypertrichosis, a rare genetic disorder that results in the growth of unusually thick hair all over the body, except for the palms and soles. The condition is often nicknamed the “werewolf syndrome,” but the covering is hair, not fur.
A group of Colombian scientists, however, think they may have found a treatment in the form of testosterone injections. The research is headed by dermatologist Angela Christiano, who, ironically, stumbled upon the possible treatment conducting research on baldness.
She was also part of the research team who discovered the bald gene.
Although the longterm effects are yet unknown, they’re hoping the treatment will help.
“Werewolf syndrome” affects less than 50 people in the whole world.
Poor little Pru!
