Menswear designers are looking to get their own fashion week in New York.
Think of all the eye candy!
Designer John Varvatos, whose suits can be seen all over the red carpet, explains:
“I’ve been a member of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) for 10 years and we’ve been trying to figure out how to do that for 10 years. If we’re going to try it, we have a better shot today than ever before, because we have a bigger design contingent.”
One of the many problems with getting this off the ground is figuring out when to schedule the week because currently NY Fashion Week takes place in September and February.
Varvatos adds “The reality for us is the men’s market opens in Milan the week of June 20, and the New York shows aren’t until September.”
Also, people believe a whole week dedicated to the fellas is just too much. Designer Robert Geller‘s idea would be “to reserve the first two days of fashion week just for men’s wear and promote it as a separate event.”
Sounds like it’s going to be an uphill battle, but you have our vote!
