If you Google the definition of “unnecessary” (because let’s be honest, nobody uses dictionaries anymore), you’ll get a picture taken from the original Wizard of Oz, but presented in 3D and you have to wear glasses to see it.
Okay, so that’s not true. Honestly though, who makes these decisions? Why would you celebrate a milestone by messing with a classic??
It’s true — in ‘celebration’ of W.B.’s 90th anniversary, we’re getting a whole slew of things. This includes a bunch of special edition collections AND Bluray releases of these standalone flicks:
The first talkie The Jazz Singer, all three James Dean films (East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause and Giant), Cabaret and Academy Award Best Picture Winners Grand Hotel, Mrs. Miniver and Driving Miss Daisy.
Plus we’re getting anniversary editions of The Exorcist, A Christmas Story, Enter the Dragon and The Right Stuff.
The most important announcement, though, is that they’re doing a special remaster of the Wizard of Oz… which includes a 3D conversion.
What an awful decision!
We’ll take a remastered edition any day — which is a great idea!
Just leave the gimmick out of it! Ha!
