Everyone has been cheated on. But this is a revenge plot we’ve never heard anything like!
This is a WILD story out of Illinois, where police are still digging deeper into the investigation of the homicide of a family of four — and what they’ve already found is shocking and unbelievable. Local news outlets reported the murder of a family of four back in September 2023: Zoraida Bartolomei, her husband Alberto Rolon, and their sons Diego, 9, and Adriel, 7, were fatally shot in their home. Even their three dogs were shot and killed. Horrific.
According to legal docs obtained by multiple outlets, the senseless murder of the family was what police now believe was a crazy elaborate plot stemming from Zoraida’s workplace affair. While working at the same engineering firm in Glendale Heights, Bartolomei “developed a romantic relationship” with her coworker Nathaniel Huey Jr. But she wasn’t the only one cheating. And when Nathaniel’s fiancée found out about the affair, she was NOT happy.

The news of her cheating lover got to her so badly, law enforcement believe Ermalinda Palomo crafted a scheme to trick Nathaniel into killing Zoraida and her family. Here’s what she allegedly did: Ermalinda made fake social media accounts and convinced her fiancé her fake profiles were a “part of a Mexican and Bulgarian criminal organization” and that there was a “‘mole’ planning to attack him”. Whoa…
This gaslighting wasn’t connected to the affair at all… at first. But just two days before the entire family was shot dead, Ermalinda allegedly told her fiancé through her fake social media accounts that Zoraida “was the ‘mole'”.
She turned him paranoid, so much so he trusted the fake profile, NBC 5 reported:
“Communications with Nathaniel eventually lead Ermalinda to convince Nathaniel he was under constant surveillance by the organization and that the leaders questioned his loyalty and trustworthiness.”
This was no quick convince, either — reports state Ermalinda had been setting this up for YEARS:
“Based on years of communication, Nathaniel’s response seems to indicate he fully believed the information being fed to him by Ermalinda, but did not know Ermalinda was the person he was communicating with.”
Two days before the 2023 murders, Ermalinda allegedly told Nathaniel through her social media disguise that Zoraida was “planning to attack him” — and he must strike first:
“They researched the neighborhood to locate cameras, planned how to get in and out of the house, and learned the house behind Zoraida’s was vacant.”
The ABC 7 report of the case goes further in detail, explaining that Ermalinda even went so far as to reassure Nathaniel he’d probably get away with it — because “many murders” remain unsolved:
“They discuss[ed] the persons residing at the residence, including Zoraida, Albert, and their two children as well as the number and types of dogs in the house. Ermalinda tells Nathaniel to cause damage to make the scene appear to be a burglary committed by kids. Ermalinda reassures Nathaniel by saying, ‘Many murders go unsolved’.”
It’s after this, per authorities, Nathaniel allegedly drove to the family’s residence around 3:17 a.m. on September 16, 2023 and shot all four members and their pets. Shockingly, Ermalinda was said to have been in the car the whole time while the crime was being carried out. The couple (seen above) were questioned the very next day after the family was found slain, but due to insufficient evidence they were released.
Heartbreakingly, the murdered family would never get justice. On September 20 the couple were officially named suspects, but they fled before they could be apprehended. And they would never be caught…
Police reports indicate Nathaniel shot his fiancée then deliberately crashed their car. He was killed in the vehicle’s explosion. Ermalinda was later declared dead at the hospital. Seems like he must have figured out her trick. Hell, maybe she told him — the coup de grâce of her revenge plot?
Such a horrifying case. At least the families of the victims know the whole story now… thought that’s likely small comfort with a story so cruel.
