Wood Harris — who starred at Avon Barksdale on the hit HBO TV series The Wire — will not be facing criminal charges after all, after being accused of beating up his girlfriend in Philadelphia.
The woman, Anya Richardson, is now threatening further civil legal action against Harris, though a police investigation reportedly could not uncover enough evidence to even charge him with a crime.

The story, as Richardson alleges, is that Harris (who had been with her for two years) allegedly flew into a violent rage and punched her multiple ties in the stomach, neck, and ribs. Richardson also says Harris spat on her face, and choked her.
The pain was apparently enough that Richardson allegedly landed in the hospital the next day, and she says she reported everything to the police the day after that.
Harris had apparently been in Philadelphia at the time shooting Creed II, and Richardson says she was in his hotel with him when the alleged “unprovoked attack” occurred.
Alberto Ebanks, Richardson’s attorney, told TMZ that because the police won’t charge Harris with a crime, Richardson “feels there is little choice but to pursue alternative remedies to help protect other women from the threat of assault.”

No word yet on what that means, but it’s at least feasible that might be a civil suit.
For what it’s worth, Harris — through his own rep — denies the allegations completely.
The rep said (below):
“The account by this woman is pure fabrication. Wood was never questioned by the authorities and that should speak to the authenticity of the accusation. No further comment.”
