Javier Bardem Would Definitely Work With 'Genius' Woody Allen Again

Javier Bardem Woody allen allegations defense film

It’s a scary time for old, embattled filmmakers in America. But in an age when most actors wouldn’t touch Woody Allen with a 10-foot pole, Javier Bardem is sticking by the director’s side!
The actor, who worked with Allen on the 2008 film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, spoke out against the “public lynching” of the filmmaker amid the longstanding molestation allegations made against him by Dylan Farrow.
Like he said back in April, Bardem would undoubtedly renounce Allen if the courts found him guilty — but since that’s not the case, he’d still be down to work with the “genius” director again.

He told The Hollywood Reporter at the Lumiere Festival in Lyon on Tuesday:

“At the time I did ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’, the allegations were already well known for more than 10 years, and two states in the U.S. deemed he was not guilty. If the legal situation ever changes, then I’d change my mind. But for now, I don’t agree with the public lynching that he’s been receiving, and if Woody Allen called me to work with him again I’d be there tomorrow morning. He’s a genius.”

Earlier this year, the actor said he was “shocked” by the treatment of the director, whose latest film has been shelved by Amazon Studios, and was “absolutely not” ashamed to have worked with him — unlike stars including Kate WinsletMira Sorvino, Timothee Chalamet, and Greta Gerwig.
At this rate, all of Allen’s future films will star Javier Bardem and Alec Baldwin, exclusively. Take that, Hollywood lynch mob?
