What happens when the entire world has internet and also plays soccer? You have an awesome global convo online!
Since millions of people are Twitter and Facebook users, the social media networks have seen a HUGE spike in activity during the World Cup!
In fact, Facebook has seen the most users talking about it than during any other sporting event ever! And as for Twitter, it’s well on it’s way to breaking records.
Previously, the Super Bowl held the record for the most tweets, with 24.9 million! But already, there have been at least 20.2 million tweets between last weekend’s USA vs. Portugal game and the opening match between Brazil and Croatia alone!
Which means when more Twitter data is released, the record will likely be broken. And we’re not even to the finals yet!
Of course, some of Hollywood’s favorite celebs got in on the action, tweeting:
What a match. 30 seconds away from advancing! Still, we control our own destiny… #IBelieve
