Andrew Cross has sadly passed away a month after suffering a traumatic brain injury.
The beloved travel influencer has sadly died at just 36 years old. If you don’t know the name, you may have heard of his popular YouTube channel… It’s called Desert Drifter, and it boasts over 400,000 subscribers!
But tragedy struck in late January when his wife Evelyn took over to inform his followers of a terrible car crash he’d been involved in:
“Friday night, Andrew was in a really bad accident. He is currently in the intensive care unit fighting for his life from a really severe brain injury.”
She added:
“This community has really, really meant a lot to him and to both of us over the past year. … For those of you who feel comfortable praying for him, please pray for him. For those of you who feel comfortable sending good thoughts, please send those too.”
The family launched a GoFundMe to help alleviate some of the financial burden of his medical bills as they continued to pray for his recovery… But sadly that recovery never happened.
On Tuesday, Andrew’s sister Jenna took to a CaringBridge page dedicated to offering updates on the influencer’s condition to break the tragic news he’d been taken off life support and passed away:
“Hi friends, Andrew’s spirit is free, surrounded by light & love. He went to be with the Lord today, March 4 at 10:50 AM MST. It was peaceful and full of love in the room with Evelyn by his side, his parents and close friends nearby. It’s a big loss for all of us, and we’re immensely grateful for your steadfast support and prayers
”
So, so sad. She continued:
“Throughout all of this, it’s been our heart to stay full of faith, so we wouldn’t look back and wonder ‘what if…’
Thank you for walking in that with us. Before removing Andrew from life support yesterday, they put him on a mobile ventilator and walked a loop around the whole ICU while all the available staff lined the hallway as a way to honor him. Then in the room, friends & family read scripture, prayed, and sang during the process of removing life support and for over an hour afterwards
It was peaceful and beautiful.”
How loving and peaceful. The mourning sister concluded:
“Andrew really lived life to the fullest, and his story & impact isn’t over yet. It’s been wonderful to get to know him in new ways as we’ve seen photos and stories shared by so many. We look forward to more of that as we honor a life well lived”
Such heartbreaking news. Our hearts are with the Cross family. Rest in peace, Andrew.
