Zayn Malik is kind of a loner!
In a preview of the upcoming issue of British Vogue , the former One Direction crooner graces the cover and admits he hasn’t spoken to his ex-band mates in quite a while.
Just in case you might’ve forgot, the 25-year-old was the first to leave the group back in March 2015, and is now giving us a bit more insight why he did it, and how things have changed since!

Malik tells the publication that he has always been one to mind his business and do his own thing, not making a single friend before leaving the boy group:
“I have always been a bit like that, though—always a bit of an island. I don’t like to confer with too many people.”
Reflecting on his time on tour, the UK native said the band’s grueling schedule is what took a toll on his mental health, and ultimately the relationships in the group:
“We went from theaters, to arenas, to stadiums. There was never any sort of bridge between. Just boom, boom, boom. I guess that kind of progression to any mind—but especially when you’re 17, 18—it kind of affects you a little bit. People take it different ways—especially when there are five different personalities. The relationships had broken apart.”
And don’t count the pieces of that relationship being put back together anytime soon, according to Zayn:
“I ain’t spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you. That’s just the way it is. There’s things that happen and things that were said after I left… snide things. Small things that I would never have expected.”
Snide comments?! From sweet Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson? Color us shocked. We can’t help but feel like there’s more to the story here…
On the flip side, the cover star says his relationship with Gigi Hadid is everything and more these days:
“Everything is great. She’s super-organized and I’m really not. It helps that she can get things together for me a little bit. I lean on her a lot.”
