Zahara Jolie-Pitt’s biological mum reveals rape; denies dispute
The biological mother of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s older daughter Zahara has revealed that the little girl was conceived after a rape.
Zahara was originally thought to be an orphan when Angelina adopted her from Ethopia in 2005 but her biological mother Mentwabe Dawit has now come forward to deny rumours she’s planning to challenge Angelina and Brad for custody.
Mentwabe explained that Zahara, who she had previously named Yemsrach, was born after a rape in 2004. Mentwabe told Reuters that she was walking home one evening after a day working at a construction site when a man approached her in the dark: “He pulled a dagger, put one hand on my mouth, so that I could not scream. He then raped me and disappeared.”
She kept her pregnancy a secret for as long as possible because she “feared the consequences of being raped in a community where rape is considered a taboo” but when she finally told her mother about her condition, “it was not as I feared. I found my mother understanding and consoling. She urged me not to do anything rash, which might endanger my life.”
She gave birth in the family’s home but was unable to feed the baby: “My baby was on the verge of death. She became malnourished and was even unable to cry. I was desperate and decided to run away, rather than see my child dying.”
Mentwabe’s family were unable to find her and assumed that she had died, so put the baby up for adoption. Mentwabe added: “My mother was not misled by anyone, as was alleged by some media outlets. Her motive was to save the child from dying which I fully understand.”
“I have never disputed the adoption of my baby by Angelina Jolie. I think my daughter is a very fortunate human being to be adopted by a world famous lady. I wish them both all the success they deserve.”

While I understand that it's hard to comprehend the story for some, situations like that do happen all the time. Especially in Africa, there is a severe rape epidemic and the victims are normally shunned. It's mostly done by men who are in the local military groups that are fighting and they can get away with it because of the local economy. Since there isn't much money, to be made by taking them in they normally just go free. The few that are caught can pay off judges and return to their units. I seriously suggest going and reading on the subject instead of saying "I don't believe it." Basically because it doesn't help anyone, especially those women who are suffering, to not be informed.
ONe of the more meaningful stories…I'm overwhelmingly happy for this little child and her birth mother….sounds like a huge blessing came from what at first appeared as tragic. No telling why that little girl was really put here…look at her past…how awesome it would be if she ended up doing something productive and wonderful for the world!

So that makes Zahara THREE years old if she was born in 2004. Angelina thinks Zahara was born in 2005 and claims she is 2 1/2 years old. Maybe now the little girl can grow up knowing when her REAL birthday is. She will be four in 2008, NOT three. So sad.
How awful for Zahara that her ancestory and heritage will be exploited for the rest of her life thank to Angelina Jolie.
Ang..just do the right fucking thing for once in your life and give this child back to her birth mother. You have the means to financially support them if its the childs best interest that you are truly looking our for. This means the woman was raped in 2004 and, as we all know, it takes 9 months' gestation before the baby jumps out.

I think Angelina should set up a fund for Zahara's birth mother so she and the grandmother can live a little more comfortably. How will it look when Zahara is grown up and knows that her birth mother is barely able to eat and she has grown up in the lap of luxury? She could harbour a lot of resentment about that. However, if Angelina sets up an account where the mother can access some money every month, Zahara will appreciate it in later years. It doesn't have to be millions but enough to help this very nice family. I cannot believe that this is not what they would do to help them.
