Puppy Farming Outlawed In Ireland

| Filed under: Legal MattersPuppyDogProtectionAnimal Cruelty

As of New Year's Day, puppy farming is now illegal in Ireland.

The government enacted two new laws, hoping to protect doggies all over the island.

They are the Welfare of Greyhounds Act and the Dogs Breeding Establishments Act.

The laws will control breeders and make sure dogs are taken proper care of.

Ireland was once known as the puppy farm capital of Europe, and now, if any breeder does anything less than humane to a dog, they will face severe penalties.

What a great puppy saving law.

Everywhere should take a page out of their book.

Japan Plans Winter Whale Genocide Hunt

Japan whale hunters

Japan has said that it still plans to slaughter hunt whales this winter, despite pleas from activists everywhere.

They say they are doing "research" so nothing illegal is going on but anti-whaling activists say the whale meat ends up being sold to restaurants.

The Japanese killed almost 200 whales in just the South Ocean last season.

The Japanese have hired an agency to guard their whaling vessels during the hunt, but the anti-whalers are ready for a fight, saying:

"They will have to kill us to prevent us from intervening once again. … We will undertake whatever risks to our lives will be required to stop this invasion of arrogant greed into what is an established sanctuary for the whales."

That's what we like to hear! Save the whales!

Orlando Bloom And His Mum Encourage Kids To Save Butterflies

Orlando Bloom's mom just wrote a children's book!

Her passion for Britain's endangered butterflies inspired Sonia Copeland Bloom (btw, great name for a children's book writer) to write Crystal, the Small Miracle.

The book cornices the dangerous life of a caterpillar and it's amazing transformation into the much prettier version of itself. Does that sound like a book you read in third grade called The Very Hungry Caterpillar?? Yeah, us too. But whatever. Orlando's Bloom's mother can re-tell it!!

PLUS Orlando totes backs the book!

“I am delighted to back Butterfly Conservation and their efforts to ensure that these wonderful insects are conserved for future generations to enjoy,”

The actor was quoted saying while on the set of The Hobbit.

You know… Orlando's mom isn't the only one with the a children's book coming out. You should check out Perez's children's book The Boy With The Pink Hair!!

Now it'll be easier to find a lost pet!

A new product called Tagg The Pet Tracker, is a new lightweight device that latches on your pet's existing collar and uses GPS technology to give you access to your pet's whereabouts at any time.

It's designed to be worn at all times and has the capability to operate for up to 30 days before recharging.

According to Tagg:

"Hundreds of thousands of pets go missing every year, and according to the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, only 15 to 20 percent of lost dogs and only two percent of lost cats are ever returned to their owners. Tagg—The Pet Tracker is a purpose-built solution that uses a sophisticated combination of GPS and wireless technology to monitor a pet’s location and quickly notify the owner via email and/or text if the pet leaves its Tagg zone, the area where it spends most of its time—typically the home, yard and adjacent areas."

It's built to withstand the active lives that pets lead and is designed for dogs and cats over 10 lbs.

The creators say:

"We created Tagg because we understand that pets are an important part of today’s family. As pet owners ourselves, we were inspired to design a purpose-built solution that provides owners the peace of mind that their pet is where it is supposed to be. A lost pet is something no owner wants to experience, and we are proud to have developed a simple-to-use and affordable tracking system that will help reunite pet and owner quickly if the pet wanders off."

The price of $199.99 may seem a bit hefty, but it's totally worth it when it comes to the safety of your precious dog and/or cat.

Technology rules.
