Gross!

If you're eating anything, we recommend you stop because it's time to talk about gross bugs.

Maggots to be specific.

Maggot therapy was first used in the time of Napoleon, and through the civil war and world war one.

What happens is when maggots are placed in an open or necrotic wound, they feed on

Jennifer Lawrence Talks Hunger Games Training, Getting Over Her Fear Of Spiders!

Jennifer Lawrence Training

Katniss Jennifer Lawrence had to train her booty off for her upcoming role in the Hunger Games.

We mean, the movie IS about a fight to the death, so… we would hope that she trained for it!

And boy did she! Here's what she said about it:

"There was running training, stunt training, combat training, archery. It was all really fun, but filming in North Carolina in 100-degree heat and 100-percent humidity in cargo pants and leather boots and a jacket was tricky. The whole crew bonded over the heat and the bugs. And I conquered my fear of spiders."

We're pretty sure that spiders were meant to be feared, though!

Ha!

You look fab, Jennifer! We can't wait for you to kick as in the movie!

London-Based Company Wants You To Eat Insects To Save The Planet

Ento, a start-up company in London, wants to turn people's reaction from "yuck" to "yum" when it comes to eating insects.

Since "global food demand is accelerating and agricultural productivity can not keep up," Ento wants to introduce edible insects into the mainstream in an effort to make the planet more sustainable.

Sounds gross, but they actually make a pretty good point

Bed Bugs Might Owe Success To Inbreeding

Bed Bugs Incest

Ewwwwwwwww!

So bed bugs disappeared for a long time, but in recent years they've come back in force — this time resisting insecticides.

Why?

Well, some researchers decided to study the hell out of them, and found very little genetic differences between the bugs during a given infestation — meaning that the problem probably started with just one or two bugs… and they inbreeded with each other to cause the war!

"We find that bedbug infestations basically start from a very small number of individuals. A single mated female bedbug starts the infestation. She gives rise to offspring and those offspring mate with each other and with their mother. This is different from many animals. In humans, it is taboo."

It's taboo because with many animals AND humans, it's both weird and gross, but also can create physical deformities.

Unfortunately, this might not lead to a better insecticide, but the more we understand, the better our chances.

We need a shower.

That makes our entire body shudder just thinking about! Check out the video above to see it for yourself!

The Doctors Explain The Dangerous Chemical Lurking In Your Potato Chips

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueFoodHealth

Do you love potato chips? Well then, you'll probably hate this…

Turns our there are a lot more harmful ingredients than saturated fat and empty calories in a bag of potato chips!

The medical experts on televisions The Doctors warn that the same chemical ingredient, acrylamide, that is found in cancer-causing cigarettes is also found in potato chips!

Scary!

In fact, potato chip makers in California are being forced to put a warning on their bags by 2012 or change the way that they make their product because acrylamide is a bi-product of the manufacturing process for the popular snack food.

What else is gross in our food? Bugs!

Some studies claim Americans eat an estimated one pound of bug and rodent parts each year without even knowing it.

Dr. Travis Stork, co-host on The Doctors and emergency room physician, says while bugs are gross, he'd be more worried about harmful pesticides, explaining:

"Yes, it's disgusting and shocking and no, no one wants to go in and eat a bug leg or a bug wing when they eat a snack, but I would argue as a physician that perhaps sometimes there are other things that you also can't see that are more harmful to your health."

He recommends buying organic fruit and vegetables as much possible, continuing to say:

"It's a fine line, because you don't want to eat bug and rodent parts, but you also don't want to use too many pesticides to try and eliminate that."

Check out the video above in which the doctors discuss the cancer-causing chemical, acrylamide, found in potato chips!
