This is so sad.
An 18-year-old man named Henry Bartle was arrested and charged on Sunday with criminally negligent homicide after the gun he was cleaning accidentally discharged, killing a seven-month-old boy.
The incident, which took place in Rome, New York, claimed the life of Nathaniel Hitt, the child of Bartle's girlfriend.
Allegedly, the man was cleaning his 12-gauge shotgun when, according to the Rome Police Department, he tried to stand with the loaded weapon inadvertently aimed in the infant's direction.
By the time police arrived to the scene, the accidental shot to "the upper body area" of the baby had long since done its damage.
Bartle is currently being held on an unspecified bail, after having been charged in the death.
Our thoughts are with everybody involved in this awful, awful tragedy.
