Giant Goldfish Take Over Lake Tahoe

Ever hear those stories about giant crocodiles living in the sewers of New York City??

The myth says that people get them as exotic pets, but when they start to get too big, they flush them down the toilet.

That's all just a myth, as far as we know, but it's the same principal that's leading to giant goldfish in lake Tahoe!!

Apparently people must be dumping their goldfish into the lake when they don't want them anymore.

Because of all the open space and a steady supply of food, the goldfish are growing to monstrous proportions.

Some of them have almost reached 1.5 feet long!!

They are thriving and breeding rapidly, and experts worry that it may drastically change the ecosystem of the lake.

Check out the video (above) to hear how they could seriously affect the lake!

Two Goldfish Survive 134 Days without Food

Two Goldfish Survive 134 Days without Food

WOW!

A crazzyass pair of goldfish lasted an incredible 134 days in earthquake-hit New Zealand without any pet food or electricity to power their tank filter.

The two fish, named Shaggy and Daphne survived in their 26-gallon tank in the reception area of Quantum Chartered Accountants in Christchurch, where the earthquake struck.

When the people that work in the office were Daphne and Shaggy live earlier this month, they were shocked to find the two fish alive and well.

Was it the strong will and fighting sprit that kept them alive?? Nope — it was poop.

Some experts say bacteria in the tank may have kept the water clean enough to sustain life.

The fish have no memory od the events.

It May Be Illegal To Sell Pets In San Francisco

Fresh off an unsuccessful attempt to make circumcision illegal, San Francisco has turned elsewhere for its next attempted ban: Goldfish.

The Animal Control and Welfare Commission would like to ban the sale of pets in the city, even goldfish.

The proposed ban seems destined to fail a vote of the Board of Supervisors (just like the ACWC's recommendation to mix birth control with birdseed to reduce the pigeon population).

We'd love to see an end to puppy mills, but is this the answer?

Is Your Pet Right Or Left Handed?

right or left pawed

To the surprise of pet owners scientists have discovered that cats, dogs, parrots and even fish are right or left-handed.

Psychologists played with 42 pet cats for several weeks as part of the research, according to a report in the New Scientist.

The researchers from Queens University said:

"Male and female cats differ in their behavioural patterns, for example hunting styles and parental care, and it is possible that these place different demands on motor functioning."

Apparently, female cats are more likely to be "right-handed" while toms favour their left paw.

The same preferences occur in dogs.

Parrots have a dominant foot to pick up food and other objects with while toads are mostly right-handed.

When fish dodge a predator they tend to veer to one side more consistently to the other.
