Bedbugs Found In Canadian Hospital Beds With Drug-Resistant Disease

Bed Bug disease

Yuck!

A study released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Emerging Infectious Diseases has found 5 cases of bedbugs in a Vancouver, Canada hospital carrying a drug-resistant staph bacteria called methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

The preliminary findings do not show that the bedbugs spread the disease, however, MRSA is resistant to several types of common antibiotics and may be deadly if it gets into a patients bloodstream.

Since the tiny bugs can cause itching, then scratching, which may break the skin and leave people more susceptible to these germs, researchers called the discovery an "intriguing finding".

While this news is kind of freaky, the study is very small and preliminary, so more research will be needed.

Researchers are unclear as to whether the bacteria originated with the bed bugs or if they picked it up from infected people.
