In Scandinavia, Laplanders traveled by skiis, being pulled by reindeer as they Santa'd to and fro.
It became an equestrian event when it came to North America in 1950, where skiers used horses. Now skijoring is exploding in popularity as skiers are using a team of dogs to pull them.
