Judge Rules That Michael Jackson's Mom Should Pay Court Fees!

Well, this is it!

Remember when the concert promoter AEG Live won the trial against Katherine Jackson, who claimed that the company negligently hired the doctor convicted of causing Michael Jackson's death?

Well, now Katherine has to pay their legal fees, according to judge Yvette Palazuelos, a sum that will be somewhere north of the $800,000 mark.

The ruling came yesterday, and although it's not be contested now, Katherine's lawyer says that it might be appealed after the specific language of the ruling was reviewed.

Last week, a motion was filed by her lawyers saying that the cost would be covered by her and MJ's three children, who are all supported by his estate!

However, this shouldn't be too pricey seeing as how since his death, the estate has earned hundreds of millions of dollars.

Texas' Same Sex Marriage Ban STRUCK DOWN! Federal Judge Rules It Unconstitutional!

Filed under: Gay Gay GayLegal MattersPolitik

texas gay same sex marriage ban unconstitutional federal judge ruling

Texas is unfortunately one of many states with a same sex marriage ban. But thanks to a decision by Federal Judge Orlando Garcia, it may not be much longer.

His Honor ruled on Wednesday that the law is unconstitutional, mostly because it served no "legitimate governmental purpose."

That's another way of saying it's a bunch of malarky! Srsly, how does people who love each other getting the same benefits as you do affect you?

Justice may be blind, but today at least it isn't dumb! But don't book that Texas dude ranch for your nuptials just yet.

The ruling won't go into effect immediately, and during the lengthy appeals process, the law will remain on the books.

Sadly, the debate will rage on deep in the heart of Texas.

Proposition 8 Ruling: Why The Supreme Court Effectively Killed The Anti-Equality Marriage Law

proposition 8 ruling explained doma struck down supreme court unconstitutional same sex marriage tolerance yay

By now, you've hopefully heard the AH-Mazing news!

Today the U.S. Supreme Court declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional and effective ended the rule of California's Proposition 8 which prohibited the state from recognizing any marriage that wasn't between a man and woman.

The reason for the death of DOMA was simple, the Justices decided (5-4) that it directly violated rights guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment's "due process" clause which prevents the government from unjustly depriving any citizen of "life, liberty, or property."

The Supreme Court's ruling on Prop 8, however, was a tad more complicated.

SCOTUS never confirmed whether or not Prop 8 was unconstitutional, but they nevertheless

Conservatives In DC Already Talking About Restoring DOMA?

Filed under: Gay Gay GayLegal MattersPolitik

doma

What a bunch of spoilsports…

On the heels of the Supreme Court overturning the Defense of Marriage Act, there's already talk that conservative representatives in Washington will try to restore DOMA! We'll wait until you finish yelling "whaaaa?" at your computer screen.

Representative Tim Huelskamp of Kansas said the following in response to today's verdict:

“My response to this will be later this week to file a federal marriage amendment."

Yeah, good luck with that, Tim! Oh, and just FYI, amendments to the Constitution began as a way to prevent the federal government from infringing on citizens' liberties, not as a way to get rid of hard earned freedoms. Meanwhile, thousands of Americans, of all sexual orientations, are celebrating this monumental victory at rallies across the country! Tim, we think you'll have better luck trying to file a noise complaint than a constitutional amendment.

Supreme Court Likely To DECIDE on DOMA & Prop 8 TOMORROW!

Filed under: Gay Gay GayLegal Matters

doma prop 8

The waves of change are rising!!!

Fingers crossed they are, anyways.

Several reliable sources report that the Supreme Court will most likely hand down the decisions on DOMA and Prop 8 on Wednesday.

Supporters of equality are hoping both cases will end in rulings that reflect America's heavily growing support for same-sex marriage.

It's these cases that will determine the constitutionality of California's ban on gay marriage (Prop 8) and a federal law that blocks legal same-sex marriage partners from receiving federal benefits (DOMA).

We really, REALLY hope we can wave our American flag with even more pride than ever tomorrow!!
