Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is one of the latest of 57 uber-rich peeps that have made The Giving Pledge, which states that the participants have agreed to give away the majority of their wealth — either during or after their lifetime — to charities of their choice.
Zuckerberg, one of the worlds youngest billionares, said in a statement released by The Giving Pledge:
“People wait until late in their career to give back. But why wait when there is so much to be done? With a generation of younger folks who have thrived on the success of their companies, there is a big opportunity for many of us to give back earlier in our lifetime and see the impact of our philanthropic efforts.”
That’s totally AWESOME! Who needs $25 billion anyway? Who even needs A BILLION?
The Giving Pledge was founded by billionaire investor Warren Buffett and Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda.
Other’s who have made the pledge to philanthropy, bringing the group total to 57, include Carl Icahn, former junk bond investor Michael Milken, America Online founder Steve Case and George Lucas.
Hopefully they donate sooner, rather than later, but it’s great that the rich are finally waking up and realize they have so much to give back to the world!
Thanks, guys!
