Family members of Betsy Arakawa became very concerned about her ahead of her and her husband Gene Hackman’s death — that is what the longtime housekeeper of her elderly mother has claimed, at least!
According to Dailymail.com on Friday, the housekeeper Keiko said the 64-year-old classical pianist would call to check in on her 91-year-old mom Yoshie Feaster, who lives in Hawaii, regularly as the latter had been battling dementia. However, the calls stopped four months ago! What! Her sudden lack of communication worried the family, and all they wanted to know was “what happened.” Keiko alleged:
“Betsy hadn’t called her mother in months. She usually called every one or two months. Last time she called was October. We were thinking, what happened?”

This backs a lot of what we have heard about the couple over the past few days! One of his daughters said she hadn’t spoken to the 95-year-old actor in “months,” too! Photographer Mark Kreusch claimed Gene’s car “hadn’t moved in a few months” — something that was out of the norm for him. Whoa. Family friends of theirs claimed that his health started “really slipping” over the past few months, and that he was “essentially kind of home-bound.” Could that have been why Betsy and Gene stopped reaching out to family members? Hmm.
Sadly, flash forward to now, Gene and Betsy are both dead. Their bodies were discovered inside their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home alongside one of the dogs. An official cause of death is unknown. Police say foul play is not suspected, but the circumstances surrounding the tragedy are “suspicious” enough to warrant a thorough investigation. So far, law enforcement has determined that Betsy and Gene did not die of carbon monoxide poisoning. There were no signs of a gas leak, and Sheriff Adan Mendoza said they “tested negative for carbon monoxide.” What we do know is that Betsy and Gene have been dead for some time. He specifically has been gone since February 17, which is the day his pacemaker stopped.
Keiko shared that the police called Yoshie to inform her about the musician’s death – but she doesn’t remember the conversation already:
“She talked to a New Mexico policeman the other day, but she has dementia so she forgot already. I feel so sorry for her. She was very upset. But right now she’s kind of normal.”
Heartbreaking…
Our hearts go out to Yoshie and the other family members during this time. We can’t imagine how hard all these unanswered questions about their deaths must be.
