A committee of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation recommended that the corporation allocate up to $100 million for the performing arts center planned for ground zero.
Uh…YEAH!
The funding would would add to $50 million in federal money set aside for the project, which is controlled by the development corporation. The part of the project that isn’t yet decided is where it would be built, on the World Trade Center site, as called for in the master plan, or at 130 Liberty Street, site of the former Deutsche Bank building. The center├óΓé¼Γäós primary tenant is to be the Joyce Theater, which presents dance.
It’s not even finalized yet and we’re pumped for this! So exciting!
Julie Menin, chairwoman of Community Board One, suggested at the meeting that the corporation invite other cultural groups besides the Joyce to be part of the center, “We need major world-class cultural organizations that are going to bring people from all over the world.”
This is fantastic news! We’re just excited that such a wonderful project is being developed! By having an art center at Ground Zero, it is representing everything the attack was against!
How excited are U about this project!?
