We’re getting two very different updates from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI on Nancy Guthrie‘s case!
On Monday, Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke to local outlet KOLD News 13 about the status of the investigation four months after the 84-year-old’s disappearance. He explained:
“These cases are difficult. Not just this case. A number of our cases come to us where it requires a lot of work from other people. It’s not just a detective who goes out there, talks to somebody, and we can make an arrest.”

Calling it a “sensitive case,” seemingly referencing the high-profile nature of the apparent kidnapping, he went on to place blame for what’s delaying answers:
“What really makes it prolonged is we do rely on labs. You don’t want to jeopardize not just the integrity of this case, but the integrity of DNA as a supplement to law enforcement work.”
He added that digital labs and DNA testing protocols are in place. And testing is pivotal in this case, as “nobody wants to arrest the wrong person” for such a serious crime.
His comments came days before his law enforcement nemesis Kash Patel continued to blast the Sheriff’s Department for shutting them out of the investigation! The FBI Director told NewsNation on Thursday:
“We showed up immediately and offered our assistance. We were not let in for four days. And that’s their choice.”
If true, that’s so awful. He continued:
“We offered our assistance to go test the DNA. And it’s up to them. They chose to use a private laboratory.”
Again, it’s hard to wrap our heads around why they wouldn’t accept help! Sigh.
Despite a rocky start, the FBI is still working to assist the local law enforcement team, Kash added:
“We continue to offer assistance. I even visited our Tucson office, where we had 150 agents and analysts working on the Nancy Guthrie race to provide intelligence.”
FWIW, the PCSD has denied delaying FBI involvement in the case. But clearly tensions are still high and likely will be until the Guthrie family gets some answers! We can only continue to hope the truth will be revealed soon.
