Anna Faris is reacting to those rumors about Cameron Diaz!
In case you aren’t familiar, back in 2003 when Sofia Coppola‘s Lost In Translation hit movie screens, lots of people thought Anna was taking jabs at Cameron through her performance. In the film, Anna played a super upbeat actress, which people said reminded them of Cameron. But Anna doesn’t see it like that!
The House Bunny star went on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on Thursday and addressed the rumors, saying:
“I was always a little annoyed with that accusation. I felt like it took a little something away from my flavor, and because I had auditioned for it and earned it as that performance, I always felt like, ‘No, I’m not part of some grand weird sabotage.'”
Not to mention, she was just starting out in the entertainment industry! She said:
“LA was so new, I hadn’t met any celebrities. I had an idea when I first moved to LA from Seattle, I encountered a kind of person that I had never met before, which is what I call a self-describer. A person who’s like, ‘I am this and I am spiritual and I’m really creative and my aura is this.'”
And that’s her explanation! She said she was “tapping into that” kind of personality when she was playing her role — she wasn’t mimicking the Charlie’s Angels star.

Over the years, Anna said this has made her feel SO bad. She even tried to apologize to Cameron:
“Cameron came on my podcast once ‘cause I had read in an article once that her feelings were hurt. I wanted to send her flowers, [but] I didn’t really know how to approach that. I never had the courage to ask Sofia to clarify.”
Although she’s never fully been able to get her feelings out there to The Other Woman star, she “kind of” got to express herself on her Anna Faris is Unqualified podcast. Back in 2021, Cameron was a guest on it, she recalled:
“Maybe should we clear the air on this podcast? I only had 25 minutes with her [on mine]. I didn’t know if I should launch immediately until like, ‘I’m really sorry. I wasn’t doing that.’ Anyway, I don’t know if I handled it well.”
Awww… You can tell Anna feels super terrible about the misunderstanding! Maybe Cameron will hear this pod and they’ll be able to finally address it head-on.
