This is what we like love to hear!
Back in February, we were VERY happy to hear the Justice Department’s announcement that President Barack Obama called the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional, and that he would refuse to continue defending it.
As a reminder, the DOMA law “allows states not to recognize same-sex marriages preformed in other states and provides a federal definition for ‘marriage’ that excludes same-sex couples.”
Now, Obama is moving forward with his support of the repeal of DOMA, by backing up the Respect for Marriage Act, which “which would take the Defense of Marriage Act off the books for once and for all.” A-MAZING!
The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on the new bill this Wednesday, which would repeal all three sections of DOMA!!!
This is very exciting news! Thanks for the support, Obama!
