Billy Ray Cyrus is speaking out and, honestly, he’s got a message that’ll have some people nodding along and others seriously side-eyeing.
The country crooner, who has never exactly been shy about showing up where the spotlight is, is now explaining why he’s performed for presidents on both sides of the political aisle. And yes, that includes everything from the Clinton years all the way to Donald Trump’s headline-making events.

In a new interview with Sky News on Tuesday, the 64-year-old singer got candid about the reasoning behind his bipartisan concert gigs. Turns out, it all goes back to something his father told him — and Billy Ray clearly took that advice to heart.
Miley Cyrus‘ dad said:
“My dad was a Democrat and served in the Kentucky legislature for over 20 years. But my dad always said, ‘When the president asks you to do something, you do it, son.’ So, I’ve had both Democratic and Republican presidents. Served with Bill Clinton, with President [Barack] Obama, Mr. [George W.] Bush, Mr. Bush’s dad [George H.W. Bush] and Mr. Trump.”
Well, there you have it! According to Billy Ray, it’s less about politics and more about respect for the office. A noble sentiment… or maybe just a convenient dodge depending on who you ask!
Of course, this convo is popping up after his very headline-grabbing appearance at one of Trump’s Liberty Ball events back in 2025.
You might remember that performance — not exactly smooth sailing. There were technical difficulties galore, and Billy Ray ended up powering through with an acoustic version of Achy Breaky Heart like it was 1992 all over again. At one point, he even joked on stage about whether the crowd wanted him to keep going or just leave altogether. Awkward…

Still, he stood by the decision afterward, making it clear he had zero regrets about showing up when invited.
And now, he’s doubling down on that stance with a broader, more philosophical take on serving any administration that calls:
“Being president’s a tough job. I pray for our country. I pray for our president and I pray for our world.”
It’s giving patriotic, old-school values, isn’t it? And it’s definitely sparking conversation.
In today’s hyper-polarized climate, not everyone is going to be on board with this “perform for all presidents” mindset. Some fans expect their faves to pick a side and stick to it!
Sooo… where do YOU stand? Is Billy Ray keeping it classy and respectful, or is this just another case of celebs trying to play both sides of the fence?
